3 Reasons Exercising is so Important

Regular exercise will improve every facet of your life, from aesthetics to improved mental health.

With seemingly limitless benefits, let’s focus on just three of the most important outcomes, its life-saving abilities, mood-improving capabilities, and its effectiveness in bone-strengthening.

It can actually save your life

It is common knowledge exercise is important for physical health, but many may not realize exactly how important it is for your overall health. Regular exercise, cardio and strength training, reduces your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and endometrial, colon, and breast cancers.

For women, exercising at least 30 minutes a day will reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by 30 to 40 percent and the risk of stroke by 20 percent, according to the American Heart Association.

For men, the number of push-ups you can do can determine your risk for heart disease. Harvard researchers put more than 1,100 active firemen through a max push-up rep test. The researchers monitored the group’s health for 10 years. In those 10 years, there were 37 health scares related to cardiovascular disease. Only one of those scares was in the group of men who could do at least 40 push-ups. Men who can do at least 40 push-ups risk of cardiovascular disease is about 96 percent lower than that of men who can do less.

You will feel happier and less stressed

There is no separation between the brain and the body, the body is the brain and the brain is the body. Meaning, how you take care of your body directly affects your mental health and mood.

Studies show that the more fit you are, the better you will be at handling the long-term effects of stress. Just one moderately intense 50-minute aerobic workout can significantly reduce anxiety levels. Additionally, a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that exercise may even be more effective than drugs in treating mild to moderate depression.

It strengthens your bones

Exercise increases bone density, which helps prevent osteoporosis. Weight-bearing physical activity causes new bone tissue to form, making the bones stronger. This is why high-intensity activities are the most beneficial for retaining bone mass. Strong bones are essential to reduce the risk of injury, especially as you age.
