Ways To Stay Cool During Your Workout

Drink Water

The first and most obvious way you can stay cool is by drinking water. Not only does water keep you hydrated, but it also regulates your body temperature and keeps you cool. When you get hot, you sweat. When you sweat, you lose fluids. And when you drink water, you replenish those fluids. Keeping your body full of fluids, preferably cold fluids, will help to avoid overheating. In fact, one of the first things paramedics do for someone suffering from overheating is get them on an IV or get them water to drink.

Swim

Swimming is an excellent exercise that works every muscle in the body and acts as a great cardiovascular workout. Oh, and it keeps you feeling cool the entire time. Instead of running in the sun and humid air, swim laps in a pool or take a dip in the lake. It might not feel as intense as your usual workout, but swimming is as all-encompassing as it gets and you will never feel too hot.

Take Breaks

This goes for any intense exercise, but it’s especially important if you are working out in the heat. Don’t go hard for twenty minutes at a time if you’re getting too hot. Be mindful and listen to your body. It’s okay to find some shade for a few minutes and catch your breath. Just paying attention can go a long way towards avoiding overheating.
